A meat department manager oversees the operation of a store’s meat department. A manager is in charge of the employees in the department and may be responsible for training, overseeing, scheduling, and completing paperwork, along with other tasks. A manager is also in charge of customer service in his or her department and is responsible for handling complaints, ensuring satisfaction, and maintaining quality service. A high school diploma or GED is typically all that is required for this job, though a degree may help with career advancement.

Other duties of a meat department manager are to maintain safety and sanitation standards according to the store’s specifications and to stay in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations in those same areas. A manager may also monitor store inventory, keep supplies in stock and ensure that products are fresh. Other documentation, such as budgets and sales plans, and employee discipline may also fall within a meat department manager’s field of responsibilities.
